As well as our love for Christ, Ashburnham Place is held together by a rhythm of communal prayer and worship. As a volunteer, you will be expected to attend these communal gatherings as an expression of your commitment to our community.
Meeting together regularly is essential for the spiritual health of our community. On Monday afternoon, after lunch, we gather to pray for ourselves and the guests joining us during the week. Wednesday evenings provide the opportunity to worship together, and on Sunday we have our community celebration service with preaching and sung worship.
Bible studies are held at various points throughout the year and there is a theology reading group which meets twice a month.
Our community of over 100 plus members, represents over 25 nations.
Community Mondays
If you’re joining us from between September to June, on the majority of Mondays we are closed to guests. This gives us the opportunity to rest and be together as a community.
Although this is a day off, there will be the opportunity to take part in optional activities. Our compulsory Catalyst teaching takes place in the evening between 7:30pm and 9pm
Some of us enjoy the energy and excitement of contemporary Christian worship, whilst others find a more traditional and liturgical setting helpful in cultivating a sense of awe and wonder. Whatever our differences, we are united in our desire to serve Christ and be a gift to all those who come our way.
We gather as a community at several points throughout the week. Here’s what you might expect
Monday
Pray and communion together as a community.
Wednesday
Wednesday evenings provide the opportunity to worship together.
Friday
Volunteer led ‘Worship & Word’.
Sunday
Sunday evening we have our celebration service with preaching and worship.
One of the beautiful things about our community is the diversity of Christian belief and expression.
Eating at Ashburnham Place
Eating together is a big part of our community rhythm. Meal times provide the opportunities for Catalyst volunteers, day volunteers and permanent community members to enjoy good food and fellowship with one another. Whether it be bread from our on site bakery, or vegetables picked from the Kitchen Garden we try to keep things as fresh and local as possible.
As well as catering for the Ashburnham Place community, the kitchen, headed up by our professional chef team, prepares high quality cuisine to our thousands of guests throughout the year. If you like the energy and excitement of a busy professional kitchen, then you might want to join the Kitchen team as a Catalyst Volunteer.
